Why hemp clothes make sense

Why hemp clothes are better for you & our world

Hemp clothes feel good, and they’re good for our planet. Modern hemp fabrics include a vast array of textures and looks. The hemp fabrics Sympatico uses for women's tops, skirts, and pants are a great example. Blended with sustainably made Tencel, hemp is an ideal fiber when it comes to womens fashions. You can also take comfort knowing hemp clothes are much kinder to our environment:

  • Hemp clothes don’t shed micro-plastics into our water supply.
  • Hemp womens wear is naturally antimicrobial and passes the sniff test longer.
  • Hemp fashions absorb and release perspiration quickly and breathe well.
  • Hemp fabric takes dye easily and retains color well.
  • Hemp is incredibly durable, holds up to repeated washings and never needs dry cleaning.
  • Hemp naturally resists mold and mildew.
  • Hemp grows softer and softer, the more it's washed and worn.

What makes  hemp good for our soil and water?

Hemp grows fast and needs little irrigation, pesticides or herbicides. Its deep roots anchor and aerate the soil in which it’s grown. Hemp produces more fiber per acre than trees, cotton or flax (linen).

Hemp is much kinder to the Earth than conventionally grown cotton. Like hemp, cotton is a natural fiber, but it’s doused in pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers. Conventional cotton poses threats to health, water and agricultural-worker safety.

Hemp clothes are easy to care for

Pre-shrunk hemp fabric like Sympatico's handles hot wash water and clothes dryers without issue. But of course, washing in cold water and air drying are best, and our fabric responds beautifully to both, making it a great travel choice.

If you do get a stain on your hemp clothing, put some laundry soap on the spot and let it sit for a few minutes before washing. That usually does the trick.

Depending on its fabrication and your standards, your hemp clothes may need a touch-up with a hot iron. Because hemp grows softer with laundering and wear, ironing may become unneeded, even for fussy dressers. Wrinkles in Sympatico's hemp/Tencel fabric  can usually be dealt with by simply spritzing them with water. Again, a good reason to take Sympatico along on your next adventure.
