Our Hemp and Tencel tops prove the real-world virtues of Sympatico’s unique blended fabric

Choose a tencel top that’s sustainable, easy-care, and thanks to the addition of hemp, even antimicrobial!
It was seeking a sustainably grown and produced natural fiber fabric that would work with the whole Sympatico line that led me to the hemp and Tencel blend I’ve used ever since. While both hemp and Tencel tops have lots to recommend them, weaving those two fibers together results in a blend that enhances the virtues of each.
The hemp content in the Tuxedo Top gives it structure.
How does our natural fiber fabric feel?
Alone, hemp is remarkably durable and offers plenty of structure with a texture similar to linen and flax. But it can have a rough hand that may take a lot of washing and wear to soften. That’s where the Tencel, made from sustainably grown eucalyptus trees, comes in. Made in a closed-loop system to protect the environment, Tencel adds the softness and drape of a rayon-like fabric.

Available in two weights, Sympatico styles like the Tank Top take advantage of hemp/Tencel’s breathability.
How does this blend work for travel?
Together, these two fibers offer great wearability, take dyes beautifully, are anti-microbial and the blend is unfussy when it comes to care. I hear from travelers all the time who love the way the Sympatico collection travels. The Tencel content helps the otherwise wrinkly hemp to relax. And thanks to hemp’s affinity with water, a quick spritz or a steamy bathroom will relax the fabric even further.
Sympatico wear can be safely rolled up in your suitcase. Once you arrive, pop the items on a hanger, give them a little misting, or hang them in the bathroom overnight, and you should find most creases and wrinkles relax without the need of an iron.
The slightly textured, linen-like finish of the Princess Top adds visual interest.
Easy-care tips for Sympatico Hemp and Tencel tops skirts, and pants
How about hot, sticky travels?
If your travels take you to the tropics, you’ll be especially appreciative of the Sympatico hemp and Tencel blend. Thanks to its superb breathability, the fabric wicks moisture away from your body. And thanks to hemp’s antimicrobial action, it doesn't retain body odors, even near the equator!
Different fabric weight options
I make most Sympatico tops in both my Mid Weight and Light Weight fabrics so they’ll be at home in a wide range of climates and situations. Both are a sustainable blend of woven 55% hemp and 45% Tencel™ (lyocell) that's preshrunk and easily machine washed and tumble- or line-dried. The difference is the Light Weight is woven with a smaller gauge (thinner) yarn. Both weights are soft and comfy and let your skin breathe.
Light Weight is a cool 4-oz. square weave that’s ideal in summery weather. Used only on Sympatico tops, it dries quickly and is slightly more prone to wrinkles than Mid Weight. It's great in the tropics and on those steamy summer days!
Sympatico’s Mid Weight blend is a 6.2-oz. square weave with a little more body. If you want your top to match exactly the color of pants or a skirt, it's a good idea to select the Mid Weight for both pieces since all the pants and skirts are cut in that fabric.
We love natural fibers found in the Sympatico blend. We’re guessing you will, too! Check out our line of women’s sustainable clothing to see more styles and colors.
